Mr. Hong's Chinese !!!

I was thinking of doing take away/ delivery from some place for dinner as I had loads of carton boxes to check and arrange. Came to know about Mr. Hong's Chinese and spoke with Sharad, man behind Hong's. I wanted to have a noodles and rice and asked him for suggestions as it was the first time. He said he'll serve the best from his kitchen and offered me a couple of starters for tasting.

He delivered it personally at 7.30 pm as spoken. I left the choice of food to him. I wanted a rice and asked him to keep the noodles alone veggie. So here is what he gave me. Hongs Fried Chicken, Dragon chicken, Singapore fried rice with prawns and a veg soft noodles. The hongs fried chicken was mindblowing. I'm not a big fan of fried chicken. I feel them to be too oily or the batter will not have enough seasoning and mostly the meat will be tasteless/flavourless. But this one was very different. Thin slices of boneless chicken marinated with a spicy batter and deep fried. It didn't have traces of oil and was super spicy. The meat was soft and well marinated. Me n my kid devoured it. The other starter, the dragon chicken had a very good flavour. It was sweet and spicy and the crunchiness from the onions, garlic and cashews were very good. But the consistency of the meat was a problem. While few pieces were soft and tender, most of the portion had tough meat and it was very fibrous.

For main course it was Singapore fried rice with prawns and veg noodles. I had kept the noodles for hubby. The rice will be more than enough for two average eaters. It was perfectly cooked, rice grains were separate, mildly spiced so that one can eat it without any accompaniment too. It had generous amount of cashews, veggies (beans, carrot & spring onions) and around 10-12 pieces of batter fried prawns. The prawns were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Later I when I heated the noodles for hubby, tasted it and felt the noodles to be cooked well. Good amount of veggies. While hubby felt it was pretty decent, I thought a tad bit more of seasoning would make the dish more tastier. Again portion is pretty good.

Overall, I felt the meal to be very satisfying. Surprisingly Chinese food (Ofcourse Indianised version) had very less amount of oil, unlike other joints were the oil too much. Decent taste, very good taste and more important of all pretty easy on the pockets. On the other side, I informed Sharad about the chicken dish and other than that one suggestion from my side would be to go easy on the food colours. Sans that, Mr.Hong's does serve some lip smacking food at affordable rates.

  1. Mam,
My experience in hongs was completely pathetic. Please check in the restaurant if you can and see the place in which this food was prepared..... You will have second thoughts in the review :)
