Basha Halwa Wala - A celebration for 100 posts !!!

First off, I just have to say that this is my 100th post. I am happy that I kept up with this blog and have made it this far. Before going into the main post, I would like to say a big THANK YOU !!! Those kind words, appreciation and encouragement from you all is what keeps me going.

As a point of celebrating 100 posts, writing about a place that's been around for 100 years serving lip smacking halwas will be apt rite ? After our lunch at Nair Mess, we decided to check out Basha Halwa Wala. Blindly following google maps, I was hesitant to drive through the narrow lanes as instructed. So parked the vehicle in the adjacent street and decided to walk. The first Basha halwa we bumped into was the wrong place. After having a not so good Dum Ka Roat and decent jamun, we saw another shop just opposite to this one with the name board "Basha Halwa Wala". We checked that place and realised that this was the place we came searching for. The owner Mr. Mohideen was kind enough to let us inside the shop for clicking some pics. They have an array of halwas including Dum Ka Roat, carrot, beetroot, pumpkin and so on. Other than that the jamuns sells like hot cakes.

We were offered some Dum Ka Roat for taste. It was yumm. Not so sweet, with excellent taste and aroma of ghee it was awesome. We learned that a mix of ghee, sugar, khoa, eggs, sooji, badam and a lot more is baked on ovens to get this heavenly dessert. I packed 250gms of this.

Both the carrot and beetroot halwa were excellent. The khoa in the halwas gave a distinct flavour. I've never enjoyed beetroot halwa like this. Licked the paper clean and there was a fight at home for this job :D

Prices are very pocket friendly. Halwas are priced at 320 per kg. And the jamuns are at 15 per piece. Service is quick and attentive and very friendly. Infact he was giving us directions on how to click the pics n all :P I paid around 180 for 250gms of Dum ka Roat, 100gms each of carrot, beetroot halwa and milk khoa.
