Seena Bhai Tiffin Centre, Sowcarpet

After checking out almost every must try places in Sowcarpet, Seena Bhai was out last stop. We were a group of about 11 adults and 5-6 kids. Since we had to check out lot of places we were quite controlled in eating at every single place. But we lost our control here completely for two obvious reasons. Yummilicious food and this was the end of the awesome of the aromale food walk.

Started off with a plate of podi idly and oothappam. All I could remember was the first order. What happened next was non-stop flow of food. Seeing the gang, the master got excited and offered to serve us the specialities of Seena Bhai. Fried idli, Mayo dosai and few more plates of oothappam and podi idli we were full to the nose.Loved the oothappam to the core. Crispy edges oozing with ghee in every bite this was amazing. A special mention to the Mayo dosai, which was crisp and tasted lovely. With shredded carrot mixed with podi and onion and a generous dose of Mayo it was so delicious.

Not sure about the individual pricing. About 4 plates of podi idly, 3 plates of oothappam, fried idly, mayo dosai and some take away cost us 600 odd bucks.

Thengai Paal @ Siva Vilas, Coimbatore

After belting biriyani at Venu, I decided to check out this place before boarding the train. We had to travel about 5kms. This is a small tea shop near tools bridge in Ganapathipudur. There are two shops next to each other with the same name. We were asked to check out the place functioning under a thatched roof. The place was buzzing with activity. We had a couple of thengai paal. A warm thick drink tasting similar to our "Arachu vitta kadala paruppu payasam" except the cardamom punch. Priced at 10 bucks, it carried a strong coconut milk flavor with a mild touch of chenna dal. Not too sweet. Loved it and felt it was worth traveling all the way. People were devouring the muttai bonda and ragi pakoda. My trip to Coimbatore came to an end on a sweet note. There wasn't a single dull moment and every meal was completely satisfying. Thank You, CBE for the truckload of memories to cherish. Will be back soon to check out the places we missed on this trip.

Dindugul Venu Biriyani, Coimbatore

Dindigul Venu Biriyani was one of the places (other than Valarmathi Mess) that was strongly recommended by every single person. After covering two places for breakfast, the greedy us decided to check out two places for lunch too. Our actual plan was to hit Venu Biriyani first, share a 1/4 biriyani and then move on to Hari Bhavan. But Venu Biriyani didn't let us do that.

Located in Tatabad, Gandhipuram (In front of the bus stand) with not so great ambience, it was pretty empty when we checked in. Ordered a 1/4 mutton biriyani, 4 kola urundai, mutton chukka and vanjiram fry. Kola urundai is easily the best I've ever had so far. Neither too dry nor too wet, with perfect spice level, this was so addictive. I loved the mild touch of coconut in that. Mutton chukka was yummy. Some may disagree with the texture/consistency of the chukka. Infact I prefer the chukka to be bit dry. But this one was absolutely delicious. With soft bite sized mutton pieces and crunchy onions, this was a delight. Vanjiram fry was a big let down. Fish wasn't fresh and the masala wasn't impressive either.

Coming to the star of the show. Seeraga samba biriyani. One mouthful of the biriyani, I already made my decision to ditch Hari Bhavan and ordered another 1/4 plate of biriyani. I love seeraga samba biriyani (too :P :P ). I like biriyani from JK but it always leaves me with a bloated feeling. But the biriyani here was simply amazing. Mildly spiced, with minimal irritants (elaichi was visible and wasn't hidden inside the masala lump). with loads of succulent mutton pieces, it was divine. Dalcha served along was bang on flavours with fat and bones in every ladle.

Service was pretty quick. All these set us back by 800 bucks which was absolutely worth the money. I would strongly recommend this place for their biriyani and kola urundai.
